Crisis is especially difficult for immigrants. The lack of a natural support system of family and life-long friends, limited or no financial safety nets, and a sense of uprootedness all exacerbate their already dire circumstances. Among those immigrants in our care are: grandparents raising their orphaned grandchildren, victims of war and terror, people stricken with sudden critical illness, survivors of devastating accidents, and families dealing with the loss of parent, sibling or child. These are catastrophes that an isolated immigrant often cannot get through on his own, and that is why SELAH is there, as aid and advocate.
