On November 24th Jasmine: Association of Businesswomen in Israel, hosted in partnership with Konrad Adenauer Stiftung, the 13th Annual Businesswomen's Conference entitled "Women on the Way to the Top". The conference, which took place at the Sharon Hotel in Herzliya Pituach, attracted an astounding number of over 350 participants, some of whom traveled from far towns in the north and south of Israel. Most of the participants were women who own businesses, most of them members of Jasmine, as well as representatives of social organizations, government offices, banks and embassies.
At the conference, both Jewish and Arab speakers discussed issues relating to businesswomen in Israel and their option to grow and expand their businesses to larger national and international markets. Many of the speakers gave practical useful advice. For instance, Ms. Hadas Adler spoke about ways to market one's business through the social media such as facebook, twitter, linkedin, and more.
Ms. Freja Day, Project Leader of the Cartier Women's Initiatives Award, flew in especially from Paris to speak about the Award that is granted each year to 5 businesswomen from around the globe (1 from each continent). Ms. Day presented the award and explained to the women the purpose of the award, the application procedures and criteria.
Three Ministers of the Israeli government participated in the conference. Mr. Benyamin (Fouad) Ben-Eliezer, the Minister of Industry, Trade and Labor represented the possibilities that the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Labor offers to owners of small businesses and also indicated that he will promote small businesses, especially those owned by the Arab sector, and especially Arab women. Prof. Avishay Braverman, the Minister of Minority Affairs, talked about the importance of integrating the Arab sector into the Israeli society and called women entrepreneurs to lead the way and prove that they can be leaders.
Ms. Tzipi Livni, M.K. Chairperson of the Opposition, who closed the conference, talked about how empowerment of Arab women in Israel represents Israel's values as a Jewish and democratic state. Ms. Livni gave the example of herself as a woman with a family who was balancing a career at the same time.
Another part of the conference was an exhibition of 20 businesses of successful women. These businesses included both products (such as jewelry) as well as services.
The conference also included a panel of extraordinary businesswomen that shared with the audience their personal inspiring stories and their ways to success. Such panel, which was moderated by Ms. Iman Kassis, business consultant, included Ms. Amal Ayoub , founder and CEO of Metallo Therapy, Ms. Alona Shechter, CEO of Alona Shechter Ltd. and Dr. Rissin, Ms. Julia Zaher, CEO of Agas Yarok and Ms. Natalia Kurzun, CEO of Elizabeth.

Tapuah (Microsoft) Classes Get Started
|

CJAED is proud to report about our new partnership in the North. Last spring, our Joint Industrial Zone projects and Tapuah - a technology focused NGO that administers Microsoft programming to peripheral communities in Israel, developed a plan to organize 200 hours of computer training for employment seekers.
Following these plans, CJAED's Bar Lev Project kicked off a series of Microsoft Office training courses geared specifically towards women in the Al-Shaghour area who are seeking employment. CJAED staff, along with the local Employment Bureau, conducted a day of assessments with women from the villages of Majd Al Krum, Deir Al Asad, Bine and Nahef. Eligible participants were then split into 2 groups of Beginner and Intermediate students. The two Beginner's courses got started in July and are being held in the Bine Community Center, each with 17 participants from the area villages. Each course includes 40 hours of instruction in computer fundamentals. An intermediate course is scheduled to begin after Ramadan. In addition, after Ramadan CJAED's Mevo Carmel project will begin two 40 hour courses for over 30 Druze women from Dalyat el-Carmel and Usfiya.
The Bar Lev courses are expected to be very successful mainly due to CJAED's efforts to bring together a number of local stakeholders including the Majd Al Krum Employment Bureau, the Bine Community Center, Microsoft and Tapuah. CJAED is hopeful that these courses represent the beginning of a successful employment/training model in the Shaghour area. Tapuah and CJAED are already in discussions to expand the programming.

New "Businesses for the Community" Project Launched
|
|
16/12/2010
|
|
CJAED has launched a brand new project aimed at encouraging businesses in the Arab sector in Israel to contribute to the communities in which they operate via community work, volunteerism and social involvement as well as monetary donations. CJAED was chosen by "Zionism 2000 for Social Responsibility" to lead the project in the Arab sector. "Zionism 2000" has been successfully running an equivalent project in the Jewish sector since 1998 named 'Aleh' (the abbreviation of 'Aleh' in Hebrew means "Businesses for the Community"). The model built by "Zionism 2000" will be adapted as necessary to fit the Arab sector. The project is managed by Mr. Shadi Basul.
The objective of the new project is to turn social activism and responsibility into a significant part of the business culture of the Arab sector in Israel. The businesses will learn the importance of social responsibility and turn it into a part of their every-day policy. This will be achieved by building long-term infrastructures and relationships between Arab businesses and communal-partners. A good example for such cooperation would be a computer's company that will send its employees to give lectures and demonstrations at local schools.
CJAED's vision is to raise the awareness in the Arab business community to the importance of participating in social projects and encouraging employees to volunteer for the benefit of the community. The businesses will understand that since the state does not provide all the social services to its citizens on its own, there is a great need for such businesses to get involved and contribute in that aspect. CJAED will assist Arab businesses to manage such social involvement in the most professional and advanced manner.
