The Institute for the Advancement of Deaf Persons in Israel initiates programs for the empowerment and independence of deaf and hard of hearing Israelis. We prove that deafness need not be a barrier to education, employment or indeed daily life.
The Institute for the Advancement of Deaf Persons in Israel was founded in 1993 by professionals in the field of deafness to meet the needs of the estimated 10,000 profoundly deaf and over 150,000 hard of hearing Israelis. Our work includes initiating, developing and implementing a wide array of services and programs, providing support services, lobbying the government and serving as a liaison between individuals and government offices. Over half of our staff members are deaf or hard of hearing professionals who set a clear, personal example of successful integration in the work force. Together we strive to integrate deaf and hard of hearing individuals into the hearing world. We work, too, to empower them both to help others and to live their own lives more independently and productively, with full access to the types of services and opportunities already available to the hearing population. With that, we do not lose sight of the need to develop deaf and Jewish-Deaf identity.
