Our flagship project- our soup kitchen- functions as a restaurant where our patrons sit at set tables and are served by our dedicated, volunteer wait staff. There are no lines to wait on nor is the meal served in plastic bowls. Everything possible is done to ensure a dignified eating experience. Patrons are given soup and a choice of fish or meat for a main course as well as side dishes. Sitting in a lovely environment, being waited on by smiling staff allows them to feel that they are worthy individuals and starts them on the path towards self-recovery.
Many of the families that come to us cannot send their children to school with food. We have established a program through which we provide over 1,500 school children who would otherwise have no lunch, with a healthy midday meal.Carmei Ha’Ir also runs food and clothing stores that needy families can buy what they need for them children also we care for many Holocaust survivors. From food, to clothing to winter heaters.
