Our History and Progress
Over the years, Ir Amim has earned a reputation of being a key player in Jerusalem, whose knowledge and expertise is heeded by by policy makers, diplomats, and the Israeli public. We have worked hard to earn this reputation. In 2009, our successes include:
*Freezing plans to demolish 88 homes in the Palestinian neighborhood of Silwan in East Jerusalem, together with other organizations;
*Filing objections to plans to build new Israeli neighborhoods that would limit development of adjacent Palestinian neighborhoods;
*Petitioning the municipality and the Ministry of Education to build much-needed classrooms in East Jerusalem and compelling the city to allow parents to register their children in municipal schools.
*Exposing 20,000 Israelis since Ir Amim's inception to the realities of East Jerusalem through our professional study-tours
*Providing capacity
building assistance and training to several nascent East Jerusalem community-based initiative
