Dear Friend and Supporter of Ein Bustan,
We are now well into the 2011-2012 school year, the seventh year of Ein Bustan! Eid El Adha is behind us, and Hanuuka and Christmas are alreday here.
What an incredible 6 and a half years it has been!
In 2005 Ein Bustan started as the dream of a small group of Jewish and Arab parents, with just 15 children from Tivon and the nearby Bedouin towns of Bosmat Tivon, Zubidat and Hilf. We dreamed of a joint bi lingual (Hebrew and Arabic) education inspired by Waldorf principles, that would create a bridge of understanding. In order to create a reality in which Jews and Arabs live together peacefully in equality and understanding, we believe that children and their families need to be provided with an opportunity to get to know, respect and interact with each other in a setting that fosters shared friendship, language and culture.
Today that dream has become a reality, as over the past 6 years our organization has developed and grown. Currently, in our 7th year of operation (September 2011 - August 2012) we now have over 50 children in 4 age groups: a nursery group for toddlers (ages 1-2) a younger kindergarten for ages 2-3, an older kindergarten for ages 4-5, and a “pilot” group of older kindergarten children (ages 6-7) receiving special additional enrichment, which will form the base of our future first and second grades. .
You can read more of our news in a personal letter by Amir Shlomian, Ein Bustan’s Director
and also read about how the bi-lingual curriculum is being put into practice this year, in an article by Hasna Suwaed,
co-teacher with Amir. Our influence reaches beyond the children, to extended families, neighbors, teachers, colleagues and friends, hundreds of people from all religions, who are touched by our kindergartens and our community activities, whether they are a joint hiking trip, an evening making cookies together, or celebrating the holidays, be they Jewish or Muslim
Ein Bustan has established a reputation of educational excellence, and in 2010 won a prize as one of 10 top education projects educating for tolerance and peace in Israel.
Gidi, a kindergarten teacher at Ein Bustan, writes that: “The principle work in our kindergarten, is to educate ourselves, and thereby also to educate our children and the entire environment, that we are sons and daughters of Eve and Adam”
Now, after 6 years of growth and stabilization, we are now at a crossroads and are actively exploring the means with which to establish a full-fledged school in Fall of 2012.
Ein Bustan’s ongoing existence is not without many challenges... Among rising racism and right wing forces in Israel, a bi lingual Jewish-Arab school is quite unusual.
While Ein Bustan has met all requirements and has an official license from the Israel Ministry of Education, this recognition is not always accompanied by the funding that the kindergarten is eligible for, and even when the Ministry funding does arr

Arab and Jewish Mayors sign a joint letter supporting Ein Bustan

On the eve of the Passover holiday, we at Ein Bustan were presented with a lovely gesture from the mayors of Kiryat Tivon and Bosmat Tivon, a letter of support signed jointly by David Arieli and Muhammed Abu Yasin Zubidat. This letter is a significant milestone for us, as we enter advance stages of planning for opening our joint Arab-Jewish Waldorf Class One, within the Bosmat Municipality, and signaling the broad support that we enjoy from the local authorities.
Furthermore, Maayan Babustan is a candidate for the Speaker of the Knesset's Prize for Quality of Life, the theme this year is "educationg towards tolerance and closing gaps within Israeli society".The recommendation letter will accompany our candidacy, and we hope you will be rooting for us!
Many warm greetings for Passover and for Easter! Shalom and Salaam.
