Teva Ivri promotes Jewish social-environmental responsibility in Israel, fusing ideas of culture, identity, and values through pluralistic grassroots action for a sustainable Israeli society. Our current flagship project is Israeli Shmita Initiative.

The Israeli Shmita Initiative seeks to re-establish the Shmita year as a time of personal reflection, meaningful learning, social involvement, and environmental responsibility in Israel. You can see a video about the Israeli Shmita Initiative on the More About Us tab below. The values inherent in Shmita – social and cultural equality, nature preservation, conservation of resources, spiritual development, and strengthening family and communal life – are all relevant to contemporary reality in Israel.
We want everyone in Israel to be aware that this is a sabbatical year, and what that means so that anyone may realize it in a way that works for them. The Israeli Shmita Initiative seeks to create an Israeli culture that makes learning and observing during the Shmita year a positive and unifying experience. We are doing this through information and education, providing opportunities for positive action, conferences, all in partnership with other organizations.
