New Family     New Family Wins InnovAction Award For Legal Innovation 02/12/2009

In September 2009, New Family, became the first Israeli organization to win the prestigious InnovAction Award from the College of Law Practice Management in Denver, Colorado, USA. The InnovAction Award is a worldwide search for lawyers, law firms, and deliverers of legal services who demonstrate extraordinary innovation in their practice. They aim to illustrate to the global legal community what can be created when passionate professionals, with big ideas and strong convictions, are determined to make a difference. Advocate Irit Rosenblum, the founder and driving force behind New Family, accepted the award on behalf of the organization at the annual meeting of the College of Law Practice Management on September 26, 2009 at the Futures Conference, a conference of legal movers and shakers designed to help navigate the future of the legal profession. Jordan Furlong, chair of the InnovAction Awards, stated, “The creation and successful application of New Family is exactly the type of innovation and implementation the InnovAction Awards are designed to recognize.” The InnovAction Awards website states, “Irit Rosenblum broke fresh ground defending a universal right to family as intrinsic to the practice of law. Rosenblum pioneered a new sphere of legal rights surrounding the family based on the conviction that the rights to marry, divorce, have children, bequeath and inherit assets, and conduct family life are human rights and must be attainable to all regardless of faith, nationality, sexual orientation or status. She founded New Family to fill a critical gap in the practice of law in Israel: to attain the right of every individual to establish a family and to exercise equal rights within it. For the 2 million people in Israel who are subject to discrimination due to family status, New Family’s achievements have been invaluable. A central aspect of Rosenblum’s work is innovating legal solutions that circumvent or mitigate infringements on rights. Rosenblum pioneered contractual marriage and Domestic Partnership Identification Cards, which confer couples that cannot legally marry or do not wish to marry by the required religious rites legal status and rights equal to married couples.”

Connections Israel     Adopting an IDF unit 01/12/2009

Educating the next generation of Diaspora Jews about Israeli Soldiers strengthens the connections between Jews in the Diaspora and Jews in the state of Israel. It creates an emotional bond and a responsibility that often contributes to decisions such as aliyah, supporting the state of Israel and overall pride in yourself oneself and one’s fellow Jews. Our educational programs are designed for 3 age groups: Grades 1-4 Grades 5-8 Grades 9-12 The programs includes discussions, movies, and a call to action regarding the relationship between the individual / group and the fighting Israeli soldier. The call to action is usually done by having the children write letters or draw pictures to the soldiers. Then, the children create a fundraising event to sponsor holiday gift baskets ($10 each) that are sent to the soldiers. Each soldier receives a gift basket with a personal letter , picture and message of thanks for their efforts on behalf of our people. In turn your school will receive a large picture of the unit where your gifts and letters were sent as well as a letter of commendation from a high ranking official. “Connections Israel” has assisted over 300 Schools and communities in personalizing their own Adopt a Soldier program and we have set set a goal of implementing such a program in every Jewish school. Help us meet this goal !
