About the Project
The Gamal program offers an opportunity for youth ages 12-17 to participate in an after school intensive study and social activity group. These youth are from the "Daled" neighborhood and would not be able to attend other programs, ours is free.
Why this Project is important
The youth who participate in this program are amongst the most at-risk in Be'er Sheva. With graduation statistics going down and violence on the rise, the youth involved in our program have an opportunity to get off the street. Some of our participants have never been to any social program before because of financial diffaculties. Others need a place to go so they can finish homework because their homes are not supportive and unable to help.
What the project achieves
The Gamal program, staff and volunteers work very hard to enroll our youth participants. After consulting with parents, social workers, guidance counselors and teachers the qualified staff at Be'er-Sova enables 3 groups of 15 youth for our after school program. They receive: Daily Nutrition through hot meals (cooked in our kitchen daily), One on One Tutoring, Social Activities, Field Trips, cultural activities all in a safe environment. The groups meet twice a week from 14:00 till 18:00 on alternate days. This is the first year we have had 3 groups. This new addition is a group for Young Leaders who are pre army and in need of responsibilty tools. We try our best to promote tolerance and provide the enrichment needed to make day to day life easier.
