Meir Panim for Youth at-Risk
15/09/2010
Meir Panim and the municipality of Jerusalem have teamed up to help youth at-risk in Israel's capital. As part of the partnership, 20 youth at-risk from the municipality's division for the promotion of teenagers and youth volunteered each day throughout the summer in various tasks within the Meir Panim organization, including serving food to needy diners and taking phone calls through Meir Panim's Power of Giving donation hotline. The partnership was forged in order to give the youth a taste of employment, to develop work habits, including working as part of a team, to encourage volunteer work, and to keep the youth off the streets and out of trouble.

Meir Panim at the Israeli Knesset (Parliament)
15/09/2010
Meir Panim representatives were invited to join the Israeli Knesset's "Fight against Poverty" Day. Representatives from the welfare office and non-profits dealing with food insecurity were present. An open discussion was held where ideas were raised that can defeat poverty in Israel. One of the major issues raised was the difficulties in acquiring government funding for non-profit work. Meir Panim applauded the Knesset's decision to dedicate a day to this worthy cause. We at Meir Panim sincerely hope that by the next "Fight against Poverty" Day in 2011, the plight of the needy in Israel will be alleviated significantly.

Donate, Eat, Love: Meir Panim Launches New Rosh Hashanah Campaign
15/09/2010
On August 22nd, Meir Panim and Yedioth Ahronoth launched a new fundraising campaign called, 'Donate, Eat, Love.' Campaign partners included Ynet, Radio Tel Aviv, Radio 'Emtza Haderech,' Burger Ranch, New Pharm, and Kimat Chinam supermarket chain.‬ The campaign will run until September 9th and continue to collect donations for holiday food shopping cards worth 250 NIS, allowing approximately 40,000 needy families in Israel to buy groceries from major supermarket chains.‬ ‪Food shopping cards are electronic gift cards that are automatically "filled" with 250 NIS each month toward groceries (except for alcohol or cigarettes), allowing the cardholder to choose what they want to buy. Local welfare and absorption offices distribute the cards to needy families and individuals in specific cities. Many of the campaign's partners visited the campaign hub in the Dizengoff Center in Tel Aviv on Sunday, August 22nd, including representatives such as the Kimat Chinam supermarket chain, Radio Tel Aviv, Ananei Tikshoret (who sponsored a commercial to be aired on all of their TV stations), the Dizengoff Center, Burger Ranch, Radio "Emtza Haderech, various local celebrities and Communications Minister Moshe Kahlon, who was the first person to donate via SMS to the campaign. About the campaign, Minister Kahlon said, "the issue of food insecurity is extremely important to the state of Israel. The beauty of this specific project is the use of electronic cards, which allows needy families to go to the supermarket just like everyone else and to buy groceries without any injury to their self-respect or their privacy."‬
