About the Project
Our groundbreaking project, Project "Olim al Machshev" (literally, New Immigrants on the Computer), aims to close the language and technology gaps within the Ethiopian community through computers.

Why this Project is important
Many Ethiopian immigrants find it difficult to fully integrate into Israeli society. Language and technological disparities prevent them from finding jobs, thus creating a high rate of unemployment and poverty within their community. Upon arrival in Israel, they attend the classic "ulpan" designed to teach them Hebrew. However, many immigrants leave "ulpan" able to speak basic Hebrew but they still cannot read or write Hebrew.

What the project achieves
The Olim al Machshev four-month project is divided into three parts. The first number of classes is geared towards reinforcing what was already learned in "ulpan" and expanding their language and reading skills. Towards the middle of the course, the computer is introduced, the various words associated with a computer are learned and all homework exercises are done on the computer. By the end of the course, the participants will be knowledgeable in Microsoft Word, using the Internet and be proficient in basic computer tasks- e.g. creating files, sending E-Mail and more. In addition to the virtual "ulpan," Machshava Tova aims to help the participants search for jobs. Towards the end of the course, assistance is provided to each participant in writing a resume and searching online for available positions. Graduates of the "Olim al Machshev" project will be armed with better language skills and the basic technology proficiency necessary to join today's job market.
