	About the Project Machshava Tova's Mobile Computer Unit uses computers to help prepare kindergarten children for grade one. more Why this Project is important Computer skills today are an essential tool for children to master. Teachers assign homework which needs to be typed and printed, research for projects is now done online and educational software is used to provide extra assistance for struggling students. Many children who participate in Machshava Tova (MT) courses do not have access to computers, thus creating a gap in their ability to keep pace with their fellow students. The need exists to provide computer knowledge from the earliest age possible. more What the project achieves In cooperation with the Jerusalem Municipality and MT's Mobile Computer Unit, MT teaches computer courses in kindergartens around Jerusalem. A new world is opened as children are introduced to the computer and begin, from the very first lesson, to learn its components and use it as a tool for self-expression. Much of the content taught is provided by the teachers- they let MT staff know what is being taught currently and this becomes the focus of the upcoming lessons- colors, numbers, letters, shapes and more. In addition, children are able to create projects related to holidays and important dates on the calendar. The goals during this all-important year are to: - Improve hand eye coordination and motor skills- use their hands while looking at the screen - start to learn the letters of the Hebrew alphabet - learn basic language and reading skills - develop cognitive skills - work on short and long term memory skills - practice listening, concentrating and showing patience more
