About the Project
Friends and supporters of the Ma'aleh Film School are hosting a special screening event at Beverly Hills Music Hall Theater, February 11, 2010 at 7pm. Screening to be followed by Q & A with the school's director, Mrs. Ariel, and 2 Ma'aleh graduates.
Why this Project is important
It is our particular wish to bring Ma'aleh films to Los Angeles, the center of the filmmaking industry. Geographically and culturally speaking, Israel is a world away from California, and it is difficult for many North Americans to get a real sense of Israel's multi-layered society with its many complex issues. Many Jewish people have never had the chance to visit Israel and have seen and tasted nothing of the joy, complexity, heartache and depth of Israeli life. Nobody is more acutely aware of this challenge than today's teachers and community professionals, who are trying to reach out with less conventional, more visually stimulating materials about Israeli and Jewish issues. They have expressed a great need for sophisticated, moving and vibrant materials which will engage Jews of all different ages and backgrounds.
What the project achieves
During the week from February 5-15, the Ma'aleh team will touring communities, synagogues, schools and Jewish organizations to introduce our prizewinning films to the Jewish public, and to demonstrate how the films can be used as an educational and cultural resource in many different contexts. We will be screening at LimmudLA, the American Jewish University, Young Israel of North Beverly Hills, Ohr Torah Reform Synagogue, offices of LA Federation and at other locations. The "jewel in the crown" event will be a Beverly Hills event for our firends, supporers and colleagues int he lA film industry, by invitation only
