Our History and Progress
Ma'aleh was founded in 1989. Once the artistic success of the films was established by 1999, the school began to develop innovative new programs for Jewish continuity, education, dialogue, and social responsibility.

Ma'aleh has now provided:

1) Widespread availability of the films as an educational resource for Jewish high schools, campuses, JCC's, libraries, conferences and synagogues of all denominations. This includes sending graduate directors to outlying communities, with the help of such organizations as Jerusalem Foundation and the WZO.

2) Tens of film workshops every year for visiting organizations such as Israel Experience, Young Judea, HUC, JCCA and others.

3) Free courses in filmmaking for youth at risk and special needs Arab adults from east Jerusalem.

4) The creation of a digital film archive of survival testimonies of Israel's Ethiopian immigrants who crossed the Sudan in the 1980's.

5) A joint filmmaking course for secular and orthodox Jerusalem 12 graders.
