About the Project
Due to the success of our social projects teaching film to the underprivileged and trauma victims, such as youth at risk, adults with special needs, and the bereaved, we are establishing a film therapy unit for groups & individuals at Ma'aleh.
Why this Project is important
Certain underprivileged groups in Israeli society, such as At Risk youth, or those with Special Needs, do not have access to standard psychotherapy. Public funds are often not available for the treatment and healing of these groups.
What the project achieves
Teaching film-making to those who struggle with difficult social issues or who are the victims of trauma, is an empowering and creative way to address inner pain and unresolved psycho-theraputic issues such as abuse or alienation. Ma'aleh film students will be teaching the basics of film-making to different groups of this kind, along with professional supervision by art therapy graduates completing their internships for their degrees at the Hebrew University. This endeavor is the result of five years of successful projects of this kind created by Ma'aleh in association with the Jerusalem Foundation, Jerusalem City Council and Rayne Foundation of the UK. The very great demand for more space and groups of all categories, has resulted in the renovation of a special space for video-therapy on the school premises. This space now needs to be furnished and equipped.
