About the Project
This unique program empowers at-risk 12-17 year-old teenage girls with a wide range of physical, mental & verbal skills for dealing with unwanted or threatening behaviors. The Freedom To Choose imparts life-enhancing skills that last a lifetime.
Why this Project is important
In today's Israel, there are more than 30,000 female youths considered to be "at-risk", about a quarter of them under age 16. These girls tend to be exposed to violence from a young age and are, thus, at great risk of sexual harassment, assault, exploitation & sexual, emotional and physical abuse.
What the project achieves
For these girls, the acquisition of basic self-protection knowledge & skills promotes a sense of freedom & control. Learning simple, effective self-defense techniques, increasing their awareness of dangerous situations & developing assertiveness as a response to unwanted behaviors enables these girls to defuse violence directed against them, prevent themselves from accepting violent behavior as an inherent part of a relationship and free themselves from the cycle of violence.
