About the Project
Yvel (a private company) and 'Be-Atzmi' (a nonprofit association) have joined forces to create a unique undertaking whose key component is an effective employment program for new immigrants from Ethiopia.
Why this Project is important
The element of employment plays a central and substantial role in the lives of the modern individual, family, community and society. Beyond the obvious financial aspects, employment facilitates an independent lifestyle, realization of abilities and personal fulfillment.
Unemployed new immigrants, or employed new immigrants with low earning power, are not only dependent on the public system but also find themselves on the margins of society, shunned and without belief in their ability to improve their situation, that is, to find opportunities and make the most of them. Such immigrants find it difficult to work, to provide for themselves and their families with pride, to be a role model for their children and to contribute to society through their work.
What the project achieves
The school established by Yvel Jewelry and operated by 'Be-Atzmi', gives Ethiopian immigrants lacking formal education, the possibility to study and acquire the skills of jewelry-making and goldsmithing, eventually finding guaranteed work in the profession.
