The Programme's aim is to encourage young people aged 14 and over to develop themselves in four areas: contribution to the community, hiking and challenge activities, developing personal skills and hobbies, and physical education.

The non-profit organization, the Israel Youth Award, is part of an international Programme which was launched in England over 50 years ago as the Duke of Edinburgh's Award. It now operates in 140 countries, in every continent of the world. The Programme's aim is to encourage young people aged 14 and over to develop themselves in four areas: contribution to the community, hiking and challenge activities, developing personal skills and hobbies, and physical education.
Participation in the Programme’s four Sections encourages positive values and creates pro-active, responsible citizens who take initiative, and who contribute to their community. The Programme empowers young people to develop as individuals, with values of: striving for excellence, commitment, volunteering and contributing to society, and love of country.
The Programme is inclusive, involving young people from every sector of society, regardless of religion, race or gender; and warmly embraces those facing challenges.
