Breaking the Silence is an organization of Israeli veterans which works to educate and stimulate debate in Israeli society on the reality in the Occupied Territories through the use of testimonies from soldiers who have served in the OPT.

BTS collects testimonies of veterans like us, who served in the OPT since the start of the Second Intifada. We then publish these testimonies in the media, on our website, and in our own collections in order to arouse broader public debate on the moral price our society is paying. Our work with testimonies is enhanced by our education initiatives which include veteran led educational workshops, lectures, house meetings, and guided tours of Hebron- an area which, in our experience, represents the harshest face of the occupation. BTS does not intend to present political solutions. Our goal is to report what we, the soldiers, have seen and done summoning Israel’s leaders and citizens to deal with the harsh reality we expose. The force of our position in Israeli society as ex-combatants enables us to talk to the heart of the Israeli consensus and make a difference.
