Schechter Institute of Jewish Studies in Jerusalem offers applied Jewish studies in fifteen specializations. Schechter’s pluralistic M.A. program attracts educators and community activists from secular, traditional, and Orthodox backgrounds.
Since its establishment in 1989, the Schechter Institute of Jewish Studies Graduate School has pursued its mission of offering Jewish education to Israelis that will make them feel at home with traditional Jewish sources, while teaching them to respect different outlooks and beliefs. At Schechter we believe that promoting inclusive, pluralistic Jewish study is essential to the future of Israel as a Jewish and democratic State. Most of our 650 M.A. students are public school teachers and principals, so the knowledge they gain at Schechter has immediate impact on their work in the classroom on tens of thousands of pupils - improving Israeli education and ensuring that Israel's future generations will be Jewishly knowledgeable, while also embracing religious diversity and pluralism. The Schechter Institute of Jewish Studies is accredited from Israel’s Council for Higher Education to operate as an Israeli institution of higher learning.
