About

Naaleh caters to all sectors of the population in need of help, operating projects which are both vital and innovative. Without the assistance which we provide hundreds of families simply could not survive the economic crisis they face. BACKGROUND The more than 50,000 people that reside in the city of Natzrat Illit (Upper Nazareth) come from a variety of backgrounds. Of them, 45% are immigrants from places as diverse as the former Soviet Union, South America, India and Europe while 18% of the population are Arabs, both Christian and Muslim. The economic situation in the area is dire and many of the inhabitants of the city suffer from socio-economic hardship. The statistics are horrific, 20% of the families are single parent while a further 20% of the residents are elderly and 13% live off income support. A third of all salary earning households exist on minimum wage or less. Many families find themselves living off government stipends, which do not allow them a dignified existence. Apart from the obvious economic difficulties that these families experience, there are the problems which are associated with it, such as ill health, poor academic achievement, violence and depression. Moishe Grossman has more than 30 years of experience helping the under privileged, 10 of them in the northern cities of Migdal HaEmek and Natzrat Illit realized the need to establish a new organization in order to increase the help given to the needy, both in terms of the amount and also range of services, together with a group of dynamic residents from the area who were deeply concerned with the grave situation of the community took the initiative to make a difference and founded " Naaleh- People helping people in Natzrat Illit". Naaleh isn’t just another organization duplicating what is already being done, but it is unique in it's innovative methods and the wide ranging help which it provides. The local welfare services were very excited to hear of the establishment of Naaleh, as having worked with them in close co-operation for a number of years, Moishe was seen as the ideal individual to help alleviate the socio-economic distress suffered by so many of the people in the city. By working in close co-operation with the local Welfare Services Naaleh are able to ensure that the help provided reaches those who most need it, whether they are children, the elderly, disabled, holocaust survivors, single parent families or those who have been hit by recent economic difficulties. FORMS OF ASSISTANCE Naaleh assists all sectors of the population and places an emphasis on family and economic rehabilitation. In addition to helping those families who cannot help themselves, an emphasis is also placed on identifying those families who can take part in a process of economic rehabilitation, which we provide together with the help of relevant professionals. Naaleh is fortunate to have volunteers of all ages, who are more than happy to be part of our important work. The use of volunteers, specifically youth volunteers, has the additional merit of teaching them how a healthy society is based on the principals of not living an egotistical life but the importance of taking responsibility and caring for others. Our help is imperative to help alleviate the suffering of so many. The scope of Naaleh's activities is varied and includes: • Monthly nutritious food packages according to the needs of the families. The head of the household chooses each month from an extensive list of products, up to a predetermined amount, according to their specific needs for that month. Volunteers then deliver the packages directly. • Enlarged holiday distributions twice a year. Before the New Year and Passover a greater number of families receive help from us. These food packages are also larger than the regular ones. • Clothing, shoes, and household goods center. • Medicine on wheels. More than 40% of the city's residents are one parent families, the elderly and disabled. We operate a network of volunteers, who help by either taking these people to the doctor or bringing them their medications. When necessary, babysitters are provided, to allow the parent in a one parent family to take care o
