“Friends of Miftanim” is a voluntary non-profit organization, founded in 1986, whose fund-raising is devoted to complementing the needs of the high risk students in Miftan schools and Meitar centers throughout Israel with equipment, cultural programs and scholarships which the government cannot provide.
Miftan (“threshold” in Hebrew) schools are educational, social and vocational frameworks, maintained and supervised by the Ministries of Social Welfare, Education and a number of municipalities. They prepare alienated youth to enter the labor force – with a high rate of success – by developing positive and constructive social and vocational skills such as carpentry, metal work, hairdressing, bakery workshops, glass-work and jewellery-making and more.
The Meitar Centers provide supervised educational recreational activities, often partnering the activities of the Miftan schools. More than 2600 students are currently enrolled in over 35 Miftan schools and Meitar centers throughout Isr
