We are dedicated to the documentation, preservation and educational dissemination of the history and rich cultural heritage of the Jewish communities of Galicia and Bukovina, which covers areas located in modern-day Ukraine, Poland and Romania.
The association aims in its work to document and disseminate the central aspects of Jewish life in these regions, in terms of both physical and cultural heritage. To this end, we are engaged in four major areas of activity: Developing our database on the Jewish history of Galicia and Bukovina, supported by fieldwork teams documenting the physical remnants of Jewish life; preserving the cultural and rabbinic heritage of these Jewish communities, in such areas as Torah study of the writings of the leading thinkers of the area as well as the beautiful musical traditions of the region; extending fellowships to Israeli students who are researching relevant topics for advanced degrees; and offering fellowships to Ukrainian students researching topics of Jewish historical interest.
